The Botswana Surgical Society (BSS) unites surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals around a shared goal: promoting excellence in surgical care and making safe, timely surgery available to all people in Botswana.
We were established to strengthen the surgical profession in Botswana — raising standards of practice, supporting continuing education, and extending specialist care beyond the main referral hospitals into the districts where it is needed most.
Test mission
Excellence in clinical care, collaboration across specialties and institutions, equity of access regardless of where a patient lives, and service to the communities and country we belong to.
We turn surgical expertise into reach — through partnership, outreach and education.
We work hand in hand with the Ministry of Health and District Health Management Teams to plan and deliver care where it is needed.
Multidisciplinary teams travel to district hospitals to consult, investigate and operate — bringing several specialties together in one visit.
Through CME evenings, our annual congress and mentorship, we keep the surgical workforce current and growing.
Our executive committee of practising specialists leads the Society's outreach, education and advocacy.
